Meta Mind LA is a boutique enrichment practice serving families across the Westside of Los Angeles. We work both one-on-one & in small groups with students ages 9 to 16, building sessions around each kid’s interests, strengths, and how their brain works. Academics, strategy, debate, creative writing, communication skills, and more.
-
Most tutors follow the school’s curriculum and help with homework. We build our own. Every student gets a personalized plan rooted in what they care about. If your kid loves strategy games, we use that to teach analytical thinking. If they love storytelling, we channel that into writing and communication. The academic growth is real. The entry point is just more interesting.
-
It’s our approach to engagement. Your child sees a game, a debate, a creative project, a challenge. Underneath, they’re building critical thinking, confidence, and communication skills that transfer directly to school. We call it the Trojan Horse because the learning is embedded in something the student actually wants to do.

A 5-session pack is $550 ($110/session). A 10-session pack is $1,050 ($105/session). All sessions are 60 minutes. The intro assessment is $75 and is credited toward your first pack.
-
Those programs use standardized materials and repetition-based practice. They work well for certain students. Meta Mind is the opposite: every session is custom-built, every curriculum is original, and the approach adapts to the individual student. There are no worksheets, no scripted lessons, and no one-size-fits-all program. Josh works with your child directly, every session.
-
We can, but that’s usually not the focus. If your child needs targeted help with a specific class or exam, we’ll fold that in. But the deeper goal is building the skills (analytical reading, structured writing, confident communication, strategic thinking) that make homework and tests easier on their own.
-
Most kids who “hate tutoring” actually hate sitting at a table doing worksheets with a stranger. Sessions here might involve strategy games, debate, creative writing, worldbuilding, mock trials, or collaborative storytelling. The structure looks and feels different from school. Kids who resist traditional tutoring often thrive here because the approach meets them where they are.
-
Yes, and this is a population we know well. Many of the students we work with are neurodivergent, gifted, or both. Josh’s teaching background is rooted in alternative and progressive education, specifically designed for students whose brains don’t fit the traditional mold. That said, we’re educators, not therapists. We work alongside any existing support your child has (psychologists, occupational therapists, etc.), not in place of it.
-
This is exactly who we built Meta Mind for. Gifted students who aren’t being challenged often disengage, underperform, or develop habits that catch up with them later. We give them material that actually makes them think, presented in a way that respects their intelligence. The goal is to reignite the curiosity that school might be flattening.
-
That’s what the intro assessment is for. Josh spends 45 minutes with your student using activities designed to uncover how they think, what lights them up, and where the opportunities are. Most kids have interests they don’t realize are connected to academic skills. We find those connections.
-
Start with a free 15-minute discovery call so we can learn about your student. If it’s a good fit, you book a $75 intro assessment (45 minutes with your student plus a 15-minute parent debrief). Within 48 hours, you’ll receive a personalized student plan. From there, you choose a session pack (5 or 10 sessions). The $75 intro fee is fully credited toward any pack purchased within 7 days.

Most families do weekly sessions. Consistency matters for momentum, and it gives us enough time between sessions for things to sink in. But we’re flexible. Some families do biweekly or adjust around school schedules.

You’ll hear it from your kid first. Students who are engaged talk about what they did in their sessions. Beyond that, you’ll receive a brief recap after every session (2-3 sentences covering what we worked on and what stood out). For 5-packs, we do 1 formal parent check-in mid-way through. For 10-packs, you get 2. These are dedicated conversations about progress, growth areas, and any adjustments to the plan.

If that would be helpful, absolutely. We’re happy to coordinate with teachers, school counselors, therapists, or other tutors your child works with. Just let us know.
